We are one of the longest continuously meeting churches in the South Bay. We were established in 1888 at
the same time he City of Redondo Beach was being incorporated. The church began when a group of believers were meeting for prayer and
Bible study together in 1884 and decided to unite. The church has had a few different names in the past but has always maintained its
emphasis on expositional Bible preaching, prayer, and gospel outreach.
In the '60s and '70s, this church was one of the leading missions sending churches in the U.S. The Lord enabled this church to send incredible amounts of financial support, supplies, and workers to over 15 countries worldwide. Missions are still a significant part of our budget and a priority for our church. We have seen many churches planted (and growing), Bibles translated, local believers raised up into ministry/missions themselves. The battle cry of our church in the '70s was, “the sun never sets on the ministry of this church,” because of the supported work around the world, this was (and is still) a literal truth.
Today, Sovereign Grace is a church that desires to glorify God through building up the people and reaching out to the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to help people correctly understand and apply the Bible to their daily lives. We use the Bible to encourage and challenge the saints in their spiritual growth and fruitful Christian service. On the Lord's Day we gather together to hear the word of God and sing God's praise united in Spirit and truth according to Colossians 3:12–17.
At Sovereign Grace, people are more important than programs. The biblical nurturing of individual lives is more important than the numbers in attendance. Our success is measured in terms of our faithfulness and of the spiritual growth of God's people. Sovereign Grace Bible Church is a place where you can step aside from the world to be refreshed by the Word in the fellowship of a loving church family. We are not a perfect church, but rather a fellowship of believers committed to God and to one another. We love the Lord and through Him we are growing in our love for one another.
